What is the recommended PC configuration to run the FISH Comparator?

  • 1.8GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core processor
  • 1GB RAM
  • 100GB HDD
  • DVD-RW drive
  • Media card reader – 5 media ports and 1 USB port
  • Standard 10/100MB Network card
  • Windows XP SP2 (standard OEM installation)

How easy is it to install the software?

The FISH Comparator comes in a self-installing file and does not require a re-boot of the computer.

How do I find the User Guide?

A softcopy User Guide is included with Comparator and can also be found here

Does the FISH Comparator handle professional RAW files?

Yes

Does the automatic ruler work with imperial 'inch' rulers?

No, you need to use the manual ruler.

Does the Comparator handle .WSQ or NIST files?

No, but this functionality is planned for FISH Expert.

Can you measure items within an image?

No, a measuring tool is planned in the next release

What size screen should I use?

The best approach is to use two screens, one prime high quality large wide screen and one used for administration. Otherwise a minimum resolution of 1280×1024 is recommended, the application will work on 1024×768

What scanner should I use?

The FISH Expert has been tested with both Microtek and Epson scanners. Low-end consumer scanners can create a lot of background noise in the shadows and highlights, so it is recommended that the highest quality scanners are used.

Why are there three processing screens in the Comparator rather than one main screen?

The design of the user interface tries to reflect the process typically used for analysing digital evidence rather than a catch all like Photoshop.

What about more colour filters?

Additional colour filters are planned for the next release.

Can I print at high resolution?

No not in the Comparator, this functionality is in FISH Expert

Does the Comparator keep an audit of any edits and markings?

Yes, the Comparator stores the information in the meta data of the image. This data is available by looking through the IPTC information in Photoshop. It is planned in the next version will allow the user to display the audit trail.
